Grayback Brush Riders, in Williams, Oregon since 1948

Grayback Brush Riders began in Williams, Oregon in 1948. Williams is a small town in the Siskiyou Mountains, southwest of Medford and at the "end of the road". Grayback Mountain is the namesake peak that can be seen from all over Williams. At the time the club began, most people who lived in Williams were ranchers, farmers, loggers, and miners. Cleo Kincaid, then the postmistress, Mabel Patterson, Waldine Terry, Pearl Hart, John Lathrop, the Pattersons, the Boyces, and Percy and Connie Sowell were some of the original members. The club first built an arena on a ranch near the Hartley cemetery. The Sowells bought the five acre property on Davidson Road where the arena and clubhouse are now, and donated it to the club.

Then, as now, the members enjoyed trail riding, camping, social get-togethers, gaming, small horseshows, and parades. These days Brush Riders also includes clinics, community service, trail building, team sorting and penning, ride nights at the arena, teddy bear cutting (yep, it's on a wire and powered by a bicycle), caroling at Christmas, sweetheart cake sale at Valentines Day, poker rides, an all-community Easter egg hunt, and regular get togethers for meetings and food.

Brush Riders strongly supports youth in the community, giving financial and practical support to 4-H groups, Junior Brush Riders, and the Hidden Valley High School Equestrian team.

Come and join us! Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month, at 7:00 PM, at the clubhouse on Davidson Road.
